Explore the creative processes of prop building during this intensive, one-week course. Discover how to start from a drawing or image and progress to a completed object using different materials, techniques and methodology.

Workshop Description
Practice the following behind-the-scenes skills in this Prop Making Workshop:
- Explore the range of materials and techniques used in fabricating props;
- Create a variety of “faux food” props that have the resilience to last a production run;
- Work from a concept drawing to create an 8 to 10 inch bust of a Greek god;
- Choose your own theatre god and create a concept, or work from the instructor’s drawings;
- Discover how to block out shapes, find the form, then refine it into a finished sculpture;
- Carve and mold features in your sculpture using modeling tools;
- Build a small armature out of wire and tinfoil. Use an oil-based polymer clay that will be fired at a low temperature;
- Materials and techniques can be used at home without any special tools or equipment.
As you build projects to take home:
- Learn from daily demonstrations using a variety of materials and techniques;
- Train in the safe and effective use of power tools and equipment;
- Learn to create props in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
KEY INFORMATION
The low student-to-teacher ratio in each course ensures instruction is geared to the participant’s skill level and experience. Please indicate your related experience when you register.
