Course Description
Practice a variety of techniques used by scenic carpenters behind the scenes during the introductory, one-week course:
- Interpret set designs and develop working drawings from them;
- Explore and practice basic carpentry skills: measuring, cutting, shaping, fitting and fastening;
- Train in the safe and effective use of power tools and equipment;
- Experiment with a variety of construction materials and methods;
- Build basic set pieces such as flats, stage decking, windows, doors and sculptural elements.
During Theatrical Carpentry – Intermediate:
- Explore more three-dimensional carpentry techniques;
- Create challenging set pieces such as curved flats, wheels, functioning doors and arched windows.
Registration fee includes materials.
