Course Description

Practice a variety of techniques used by scenic carpenters behind the scenes during the introductory, one-week course:

  • Interpret set designs and develop working drawings from them;
  • Explore and practice basic carpentry skills: measuring, cutting, shaping, fitting and fastening;
  • Train in the safe and effective use of power tools and equipment;
  • Experiment with a variety of construction materials and methods;
  • Build basic set pieces such as flats, stage decking, windows, doors and sculptural elements.

​During Theatrical Carpentry – Intermediate:

  • Explore more three-dimensional carpentry techniques;
  • Create challenging set pieces such as curved flats, wheels, functioning doors and arched windows.

Registration fee includes materials.
