Rich Baker
Artistic Welding
Continually evolving but always focused on realism, Rich Baker transforms sheets of metal into vibrant manifestations of the human, animal and natural form. Rich feels that the process of manipulating steel is instinctive; the figure springs from the imagination. The textures, shapes and colorations come together as the artist hammers, grinds and welds each component.
On his original and commissioned sculptures, Rich follows no guide or single school of technique; rather, he allows his creativity and multiple metalworking disciplines to come together as needed. Rich feels that, through the study of form and function, the practice of exploring the elements of the raw materials he works with, and a desire to always elevate the craftsmanship of his art, each sculpture grows and moves in its own way.
Rich currently resides in the countryside of Southwestern Ontario with his wife, daughter, cats, and various wildlife that wander by.
