Emily Dyck
Prop Making
Emily studied Technical Production of Theatre and Live Events at Sheridan College. Graduating in 2015, she proceeded to spend the next decade expanding her ‘material knowledge’ by working on as many shows as she could, in as many places as possible.
She has worked across Canada, from the Banff Centre for the Arts to the National Ballet; small community shows to international productions; Broadway tours to film and television. She has worked in wardrobe, scenic paint and backstage running crew, all with the intent of becoming a better props builder. Emily is proficient in carpentry, puppetry, upholstery, sewing, leatherwork, metalwork, welding, and working with plastics and foam. She can cast, mold, sculpt and paint. For the last 7 seasons, Emily has spent the majority of her time as a Prop Builder at the Shaw Festival while her off-season is spent working at other companies like Theatre Aquarius, Paragon Props, and the Canadian Opera Company.
This will be Emily’s first foray into teaching and she looks forward to passing along her skills and her joy of building to up-and-coming theatre artists.
