Alexa Fraser

Alexa Fraser is a costume and puppet designer, textile and installation artist, and arts educator based in St. Catharines, Ontario. She holds a B.Des in Fashion Design from Toronto Metropolitan University. Alexa creates and performs puppets, designs and builds theatrical costumes, and produces textile and installation art. Her practice is guided by sustainability, informed by feminist perspectives, and rooted in community engagement. 

Select puppetry credits include design and performance of tabletop puppet shows for five years of Carousel Player’s Culture Days events, Drama Garden. This event received Spotlight Recognition from Ontario Culture Days in 2022, receiving “Best In Person Program-Runner Up,” and was also performed at the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre on Family Day, 2024. Puppet design and instructional video for Carousel Players Giant Puppet Dance Party. Puppet design and creation for Cosmic Fishing Theatre Company’s Discover and SHADED, Yellow Door Theatre Project’s Nobody’s Children, Seussical the Musical, Into the Woods, The Little Prince and Beauty and the Beast, Carousel Player’s Pop Pop, and for Concrete Cabaret’s Exquisite Collaboration and #7 A VERY SPECIAL Holiday SPECIAL. 

Alexa has studied puppetry construction and performance with David Lane (founding member of the Old Trout Puppet Workshop) at the New England Puppetry Intensive, the Puppetmongers and CLUNK Puppet Lab at the Humber College Puppetry Intensive, with Frank Meschkuleit and Mike Petersen at the Toronto School of Puppetry, and online with Mark Down of Blind Summit Theatre (England) and Bernd Ogrodnik of World of Puppets (Iceland).  Alexa has taught the Carousel Players’ Puppet and Mask summer camp since 2021 and has taught Puppet design and performance at Brock University’s Department of Dramatic Arts, along with Wardrobe, Intro to Theatre Design and Costume and Props Design since 2023.
