Laurie Tomé is a professional scenic artist who has worked in theatre for over 25 years. She began her career as a graduate of Niagara College’s Theatre Arts program but went on to acquire a Fine Arts degree from UWO as well as a Bachelor of Education.
She is fortunate to have had 9 seasons painting for the Stratford Festival where she worked with some of the finest designers in the industry as well as some of the most gifted artists and artisans in the country.
Laurie settled in London Ontario in 1987 and began a long working relationship with the Grand Theatre. In the many years she worked at the Grand, her most cherished were the four seasons she spent as Head Scenic Artist.
Her life as a professional scenic artist includes a variety of painting experiences from tv, to summer stock theatres, YPT, Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Aquarius, large scale music festivals like Woodstock ’99 and Broadway (The Lion King). Laurie is cofounder of Budding Artists Studio which provides art workshops for kids and youth in the London area.
For the past 7 years, Laurie has taught for Fanshawe College in the Technical Theatre program introducing many young students to the fundamentals of set design, scenic art and the history of theatre.
Laurie is happy to return to Off the Wall where she worked happily alongside Kevin Kemp in the early years of these remarkable scenic art workshops.
